Series Finish:

We left Bay Club nice and early to make it up to Mission Bay on time. On the way out, we passed Fiasco who had some water in the bilge issues, so happily we will be joined by Agusti and Joe for Sunday's race. Up at Mission Bay, we had a great start hitting the line with speed going to the only mark - 1 nm to windward. We were getting out-pointed by Audacious so we tacked to the right and picked up big ground. By the time we tacked back to the left and approached the weather mark, we were able to tack in front of French Bred and Brushfire and start toward Oceanside. The light winds and swells didn't do wonders for our pointing ability so we had 2 more tacks before getting back under way and avoiding the kelp beds off La Jolla. We were footing a bit for speed and finally the wind started to shift to the left and we were now able to lay the finish line (albeit 15 miles away!) The only problem - the wind never stopped shifting to the left and we ended up on a dead run to the finish line having to gybe to get there. So much for the straight reach up the coast! We crossed the finish line at 1824 - by far our longest trip to Oceanside - finishing and correcting to 8/14. Not bad considering 4 boats were not able to finish by the 1900 cut-off time!
