Good winds and sunshine were just the beginning for a wonderful day of racing in the bay. With winds around 12-14 and out of the South for the start of Race 1, we went with the #2. As we approached the pin on port at full speed we El Sueno coming up but not fully powered up with the jib luffing as we hit the start line right at the pin and won the start. With full on, we were on a close reach up to X with Eclipse just behind trying to come up, El Sueno below and back in our bad air, and French Bred pretty far down. As we approached our 3 boat length circle, we turned down just to X and established no overlap with Eclipse and keeping French Bred below with no rights. We reached X first in our fleet and tacked at the mark, with Eclipse right on our heels and French Bred right on theirs and footed off to 20. With Eclipse and French BRed vying for position, we maintained our lead to 20. We launched the symmetric spi and made our way to Z. On this leg, French Bred and Eclipse soaked low, with El Suno and BQuest going high. We held our position as we got passed mid way down the leg by the much faster boats. We had a nice takedown at Z and started our upwind leg back to X, still reaching with great breeze. We got to X in 5th position, tacked on to starboard, and launched the spi. We held position getting around Z and reached back up to the finish line. Great crew work all around for the entire race. We finished the 7.2 nm race in just under 58 minutes for a average of 7.47 kts and corrected out to 1/8!!! What a great race.
