After such a great finish in race 1, the pressure was on for race 2. Wind speed and direction were still on for the race start as we again reached for the start line at full speed on port going for the pin. Eclipse came across our bow starboard and tacked for the line, but we got beneath them with rights and forced them up to the pin, where they had to tack around. WE were once again at the pin at full speed reaching for X. El Sueno was below but this time had clean air and were the only boat to reach X before us. As we tacked at X, we set the spi on our way down to 24 and wathced as El Sueno went the entire leg under jib. We got passed by Eclipse downwind, but the stayed well below our line. As we got to the edge of the Navy protection by the aircraft carriers, we went back up with the #2 as the wind was pretty far in front. French Bred was coming fast with the spi still up and tried to go above us. We came up from below them to avoid getting covered as they ended up slowing down and footing off behind us and headed back into the oncoming current. We reached down to 24, rounding behind El Sueno and Eclipse, but still ahead of French Bred. We reached our way back up the the Navy protection with French Bred nipping at our heels. The closer they got, the more we had to sail just along the sausages to keep them from passing. They finally footed off a bit more to get clean as we skirted our way around North Island. We found ourselves on our only beat of the day as we headed back up to 18. French Bred finally go tht e better of us as they came from below and pinched us off. We made a short tack to get clean and tacked back, crossing just behind them to get to 18. We rounded 18, launched the spi and sailed down to 21 with the wind shifting a bit. We had a clean rounding at 21 and reached back to the finish line, crossing in 01:09:24. We corrected 1/7 for race 2! What a great finish to 2 fantastic races!!!
